Liveaboard or day trip in Komodo
Updated 11 October 2026
Princess Lala sells no day trips. The shortest trip is two days and one night, from IDR 2,750,000 (≈ USD 169) per person in an open-trip cabin or IDR 31,750,000 (≈ USD 1,948) for the whole boat. A speedboat day trip, sold by others, suits one free day; a night on board suits Padar at first light and the bats at Kalong.
Three ways to see the park, and which one we do not sell
Most people arrive at this decision with one question: do I give Komodo a day, or do I give it a night? There are three answers, and Princess Lala sells the second and the third.
The first is a speedboat day trip, sold by others. It is one day on the water, with your bed on shore that night. The second is a cabin on our open trip: two days and one night, or three days and two nights, on the Monday or Friday sailing, with a place at the long table among the other guests. The third is the whole boat, as a private charter, for a group you choose yourself.
In the table below a dive liveaboard sits beside them, only so you can see where we stop. For our two rows the sunrise column names the stop: the walk along the Padar ridge on day two.
Our open-trip row shows the three-day fare, from IDR 3,250,000 (≈ USD 199) apiece, with two nights; the two-day fare, from IDR 2,750,000 (≈ USD 169) per person, has one. The charter row shows the shortest charter, IDR 31,750,000 (≈ USD 1,948) for the whole boat and one night on the two-day route, and charters run up to four nights on the five-day route. The speedboat and the dive liveaboard are marked as not us, and the only question is which row is yours.
| Format | nights | From | Sunrise stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speedboat day trip (not us) | 0 | — | no |
| Open trip on Princess Lala | 2 | IDR 3,250,000 per person | Day 2, Padar ridge walk |
| Private charter on Princess Lala | 1/2/3 | IDR 31,750,000 per boat | Day 2, Padar ridge walk |
| Dive liveaboard (not us) | 3–7 | — | yes |
What a night on board changes
Two things in the park happen at the edges of the day. Sunrise on the Padar ridge is one, and the fruit bats leaving the mangroves at Kalong at dusk is the other. A night on board puts you at both.
That is the real difference, more than the number of stops. On Princess Lala the walk up Padar is the first thing on day two, before breakfast, and the bats are the last thing on day one, before dinner. Between them are the dragons on Komodo with a ranger, Pink Beach, Manta Point and the sandbar at Taka Makassar.
The other change is the table. A day boat gives you a lunch. A night on board gives you your meals at the long table, from lunch on day one to breakfast on day three on the three-day fare, and the people at the other end of it are people you know by the end of the first evening.
Then there is the bed. Every cabin is air-conditioned, with a sea-view window and a bed that stays where it is. For a lot of guests that is worth more than the extra stop.
The open-trip cabin, in plain terms
The fares are the 2027 ones; any sailing that starts earlier costs IDR 100,000 (≈ USD 6) less per person, whichever cabin you take. On the open trip you buy a place, not a boat. The sailing leaves every Monday & Friday, you choose a cabin, and you pay a fare per person. Two or three of you can share one cabin in Cabins 1 to 5, each of which has a single bed next to the double. Two adults and a nine-year-old fit in Cabin 4, behind one door.
The three-day fare runs from IDR 3,250,000 (≈ USD 199) in Cabin 3, which shares a bathroom and is the lowest on board, to IDR 4,750,000 (≈ USD 291) in Cabin 1, the master with a balcony. The two-day fare on the same sailing runs from IDR 2,750,000 (≈ USD 169) to IDR 4,450,000 (≈ USD 273). The table below shows the three-day and the two-day fare for every cabin, and the extra-bed fare for a third guest on the three-day sailing. The local guide and the photographer are part of it.
Who sits with you? The other guests who booked a cabin on the same sailing. They are strangers at the first lunch and familiar faces by the end of the first evening. If your group wants to eat only with people it brought, read the next section.

The whole boat, in plain terms
A private charter hands Princess Lala to your group, for two, three or four days, or five. Every chair at both tables is someone you brought, we agree the pickup hour with you, and the route is the one in the itinerary pages. The fare is per boat: from IDR 31,750,000 (≈ USD 1,948) for two days with up to four guests, and priced by band up to twelve and then by the extra guest up to eighteen.
Here is how to judge it. If everyone you are bringing belongs at the same dinner, as three generations of one family or two couples who travel well together do, the charter is a fair price for what you get. At eight guests on the three-day route the charter works out at about IDR 5,120,000 (≈ USD 314) each, which is more than an open-trip cabin, and the difference buys privacy and a route you can shape with us.
The charter fare leaves out the local guide and the photographer. Those are on request, quoted separately. On both, the park fees come on top.
If one day is all you have
Then a liveaboard is not the answer. The shortest thing we sail is two days and one night, and on the open trip it docks at 19:00 to 20:30 on the second evening. That is a poor shape for a guest with a single free day.
A speedboat day trip, sold by others, will serve that guest better. Check what its fare includes before you pay.
If you have two days, though, the open trip is not a smaller version of the day boat. It adds the evening at Kalong and the morning on Padar, a night's sleep in a cabin and the long table at dinner and breakfast. With three, you also have dinner on board on day two, a second night and Kanawa on the last morning.
Tell us how many days you have and who is coming, and we say which row of the table you are. If it is not ours, we say that too.
FAQ
Is a liveaboard worth it compared with a speedboat day trip?
If you have two days or more, yes, for two reasons. A night on board puts you at Padar at first light and at Kalong at dusk, which a speedboat day trip does not offer. And the meals, the cabin and the crew come with the night. If you have one day only, a day trip, sold by others, is the better fit.
Does Princess Lala sell a day trip?
No. The shortest trip we sail is two days and one night, on the open trip from IDR 2,750,000 (≈ USD 169) per person or as a private charter from IDR 31,750,000 (≈ USD 1,948) for the whole boat. For one free day, book a speedboat with another operator.
Will strangers share the boat with us on an open trip?
Yes. The open trip sells cabins individually, so the other guests on your sailing booked their own cabins and you eat together at the long table or the stern table. Up to seventeen guests fit when every extra bed is used, because Cabin 6 is sold for two. If you want only your own group on board, charter the whole boat.
Is the open trip or the charter cheaper for a family of four?
On paper the open trip is. Two private cabins on the three-day sailing cost IDR 3,800,000 (≈ USD 233) per person, while the charter for up to four guests is IDR 38,000,000 (≈ USD 2,331) for the whole boat, which is IDR 9,500,000 (≈ USD 583) each. The charter buys the entire boat, the pickup hour of your choice and a route you shape with us.
What is the shortest liveaboard trip you sell?
Two days and one night. On the open trip, Monday and Friday sailings carry the two-day fare from IDR 2,750,000 (≈ USD 169) per person, and the boat docks in the evening, 19:00 to 20:30. A private charter for two days starts at IDR 31,750,000 (≈ USD 1,948) for the whole boat. We run nothing shorter and no day trips.
